Biggest total solar eclipse for 16 years – Will you be watching?

solar-eclipse-151211_640A near total solar eclipse will be visible this Friday in the morning’s rush hour. The moon is due to appear in front of the sun causing ninety per cent darkness over the country.

As long as the weather goes as planned it should make a pretty impressive sight here in Nottingham. You should be able to see a small sliver part of sun at the bottom, almost like a thin crescent moon turned on its side.

It has been 16 years since the last solar eclipse and astronomers believe the next one will be in 2026.

The eclipse will take place from 8-10am. Filters can be bought from online retailers such as Amazon and eBay.

EclipsbrilExhibition manager Kevin Yates from the National Space Centre in Leicester tells us about the precautions we should take.
