Run by the Nottingham based alcohol and drug recovery charity Double Impact, Sobar was opened one year ago.
The initiative was supported by a grant from the Big Lottery fund. The owners wanted to create a place where there was no social pressure to drink alcohol.
The venture began after the charity found that one of the main barriers to recovery from alcohol abuse was social isolation and the lack of places to go that are alcohol free, particularly in the evenings and weekends. It also hires people in recovery so they can gain valuable experience in employment.
Sobar is based just off of Market Square in what used to be the headquarters of the Nottingham Building Society and to celebrate the anniversary staff have hosted a number of events, including a performance the young musician Jordan Pass.
