Wheel of Nottingham rolls into town

IMG_0466A sixty metre wheel is currently being erected in Market Square in the centre of Nottingham, giving the public views as far as Belvoir Castle and beyond.

The wheel, provided by Mellors Group Events, holds up to 238 punters in its 39 standard, and one VIP, “gondolas”.

Three days into the week long build, the main pillars are up and the ten specially trained staff hope to have the wheel turning by Saturday the 31st of January.

The wheel which was last in Nottingham back in 2011 used to be a regular yearly feature in Old Market Square and would stay for several months at a time.

Dubbed the ‘Nottingham Wheel’, it will be the focal point of the city for three weeks, open from 10am until 10pm daily.

The Wheel will go alongside other City Centre events hosted by Nottingham City Council’s Leisure and Culture Portfolio, such as Light Night.

Portfolio holder, Dave Trimble, said “it’s a long time since people have had the chance to go on it” and “there’s fifty acts on around the city but of them around thirty will be brand new”.
