Nottingham Playhouse : Can the public help make it more money?

theatreTonight the Nottingham Playhouse is hosting a debate on whether community involvement is the key to receiving more funding for regional theatres outside of London.

The discussion, which is being held at the Nottingham Playhouse, is the final in a series of debates organised by Nottingham Trent University’s school of Art and Design to mark 170 years of art heritage. The debate will be thrashed out by a panel of theatre experts; however all members of the public are welcome.

For some time now there has been a lack of theatre funding supplied to regional theatres outside of London.

Be it through taxes or buying tickets, in one way or another everyone can contribute to the funding of regional theatres.  But how often do the people of Nottingham actually get involved with their local theatres? And would people miss them if they were to disappear due to a lack of funds? – These are just some of the questions that will be raised in the debate by the panel of theatre experts.

More on this story coming up.
