The festive season officially starts for Nottingham tonight, as the Christmas lights get switched on in Old Market Square.
The familiar ‘olde English’ themed market will be lit up and turned into a ‘Winter Wonderland’, with spectators able to experience market stalls, fresh food, a licensed bar serving warm mulled wine and ice skating.
This year, The Martin family will turn the lights on following a radio competition. Seven year old Alfie Martin will switch them on surrounded by his family after raising thousands of pounds for cancer charities, while undergoing treatment for leukaemia himself.
Nottingham was recently voted one of the best cities for Christmas shopping in the country.
