market-square-xmasNottingham has been named one of the top ten Christmas destinations in the UK according to recent statistics by National Express.

With its traditional English market, thriving creative quarter and tons of bars and restaurants, it’s perhaps no wonder that travel bookings into Nottingham have already reached the thousands.

Nottingham is now amongst cities such Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester as one of the most popular destinations to visit during the festive month.

Travel bookings into Nottingham have increased by 8% in comparison to previous years, making Nottingham more popular than ever during the busy Christmas period.

Figures shows that the most popular day to travel into Nottingham is the 27th December. National Express believe that shoppers travelling into the city around that date will be “getting a head start on the January sales due to the vast array of independent retailers Nottingham has”.

Nick McDonald, Councillor for Jobs & Growth, believes tourism within Nottingham is only going to flourish. “The Victoria Shopping Centre is currently undergoing refurbishment from Intu, a deal has been struck with Broadmarsh for a £150 million redevelopment of the centre and plans to rebuild the castle has also been approved”.

Old Market Square is currently undergoing transformation into a winter wonderland as the council prepare for shoppers from around the UK to pack the streets leading up to the big day.
