It has emerged today that the proposed HS2 link site in Toton may be moved to a location near Breaston in Derbyshire to better road and rail connections.
.In a report published today (Monday 27) HS2 chairman, David Higgins , says that the new location must benefit Nottingham and Derbyshire.
The new site, to the west of Toton, could be chosen due to better connections to the M1 and the Midland Main Line.
David Higgins presented the report this morning entitled “Rebalancing Britain”.
In the report he said: “A combination of geography, historic land use and existing infrastructure makes it difficult to come up with the perfect solution for the East Midlands.”
“It is clear that the right location is one which delivers the best fit with existing services.”
Chris Hobson, from the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce said:
“It’s vital that all interested parties in the region put aside local difference and come together to ensure the HS2 hub station can deliver for the whole region.
“Local businesses should be given the opportunity to feed into the development of HS2 to ensure the region gets the full benefit.”
