The 21-year-old winner, Rosie Baker-Williams, recently graduated with a first class honours degree in Broadcast Journalism this summer and won the competition with her final piece of university work.

Her winning documentary called ‘Beggars with a Gimmick’ looked at the highs and lows of being a street performer in London.

With most of the filming in Covent Garden, an infamous hub for street performing, Rosie interviewed various performers and campaigners.

Judges praised Rosie for including an interview with well-known comedian Eddie Izzard about his time performing on the streets before making it big.

Universities in China and Nottingham set up the new award as a collaboration.

Rosie will now get the chance to compete in a Hong Kong film festival.
