People aged over 85 in Bassetlaw are being given home fire safety checks in an initiative led by Nottinghamshire County Council and Nottingham Fire and Rescue Service.
The free service has been offered to 50 homes in order to reduce the chances of a fire or an accident.
Checks take around 45 minutes, during which the firefighters complete a checklist on a range of issues including overloading plugs, smoking hazards and installing smoke alarms.
There are plans to extend the checks to the rest of the county following extremely positive feedback.
