Two washers and a dryer make up the country’s first outdoor-laundrette. Customers can now wash their clothes while they do their shopping in Bestwood.
The facility, at The Southglade Convenience Store on Bestwood Estate, can be used 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Washing detergent and softner is supplied by the machines – which can hold up to 18kg of dirty laundry.
Kuldeep Singh Lalli, 61, and his wife, Mrs Lalli, the owners of the Premier store where the machines have been installed, were approached by national company Photo Me with the idea.
“We’ve had mixed reviews”
Mrs Lalli said “We were a bit apprehensive at first.” When asked about the initial response to the installations, she said “We’ve had mixed reviews from the local community, but the hairdressers down the road say we are a god send!”
Photo Me International have trialled the idea in France and claim the ‘Revolution’ washers are an eco-friendly design and economic washing experience – with eco-label and hypoallergenic detergent supplied by the machines.
The company have said ‘This is a new and innovative self-service facility, which is ideal for all types of consumers’
“I don’t think I’ll use it”
Local residents are unsure that the idea will work in the area. One customer at the Premier Stores shop said “I don’t think I’ll use it, because I’ve got my own at home.”
