The number of cyclists is at an all-time high but according to statistics so are the number of cycling related injuries.
Over the last forty years there has been an abundance of safety features that have been put into roads and cars.
The UK road death toll has seen a significant drop from 7,700 in 1972 to 1754 in 2012. Serious injuries have also dropped by sixty-two in that period.
However, cycling deaths rose by ten percent during 2012, as well as serious injuries rising for the eighth consecutive year.
Head of Pedals Hugh McClintock gave his insight into the situation.
“Drivers and cyclists need to have respect for each other and the enforcement of speed limits is vital. It reduces the chances of an accident becoming a fatal one.”- Hugh McClintock
