The Nottingham Open will return to the ATP tour next year, as one of the primary warm up events before Wimbledon.
The tournament was previously an ATP event up to 2008, however the event then lost it’s tour status, and thus it’s allure to attract the top players. The Nottingham Open boasts some fine former winners, such as Briton Greg Rusedski, Ivo Karlovic, and current world number 9 Richard Gasquet, and local tennis players have welcomed the tournament’s return to ATP status:
“For me, as an aspiring player, to be able to watch such quality tennis on a local stage is amazing. The only other alternative is Wimbledon really, and that’s a nightmare to get tickets for, so to have an ATP event on our doorstep is really, really good – I can’t wait to watch it!”
