Nottingham libraries offer a week long book amnesty

LIBRARYLibraries across Nottingham host a series of events and special offers in the run up to National Library Day , which is on Saturday (February 8th).

Celebrations start today (February 3rd) and will include a range of free activities across the City. These include poetry sessions and readings by local authors. Visitors are being asked to call in and write about what they love most about  libraries as well as take advantage of special offers.

A week long book amnesty is taking place throughout week, which means members of the public can return overdue items without receiving a fine. They are also offering three-for-two on the cost of CD and DVD loans.

Nottingham’s libraries lose over thirty three thousand pounds to unpaid library fines each year. Wendy Hart, Acting Manager at Nottingham Central Library, said people are scared to return to the library because of unpaid fines. They hope this amnesty will encourage them to return the books and therefore feel confident to return to the library.
